Synopsis for "Everyday Life"
It is a beautiful day for the ten-year-old Astra, who lives with her extended family in a big house. She gets up and feeds her fish, then goes into a hall for a morning exercise routine - which involves lasers, because she is Astra Furst, of Astro City's First Family super team.
As she does her exercise, her mother finds her and list off a morning itinerary to prepare for her appearing on the local TV show "Astro Kidz 2-Day" for an interview. As she eats a specially-formulated breakfast, her interviewer is reviewing the story of her family - how her famous grandfather & grand-uncle traveled for exciting adventure, but when they adopted her mother and uncle, they settled in Astro City and became super heroes.
At the interview, children get the offer to phone in with questions. Astra stumbles over questions about normal topics, which makes the producers pivot, only allowing super hero questions. After this, the interview gets easier, but Astra stews over the first set of questions... and while flying home, she sees a hopscotch court on the sidewalk. She wants to ask her mother what it means, but an emergency calls her away, and when Astra tries to ask the computer that gives her science education, it is outside its knowledge.
Before she can ask further, she is called away for adventure with the rest of her family. Her grandfather Augustus prods her to explain the villain from the villain lists they made her study. She rattles off the salient details - Sergei Vlataroff, scientist who turned himself into mental energy, tried to take over the world as "the Silver Brain", needs underlings to get anything done, last seen being thrown into the Mento-Verse, now taking over the psychology department of the local university.
At the university, they see the underlings - the Gorilla Swarm, a hivemind of super-gorillas, building an array to enhance the mind-control signals. Astra disrupts the signals, making the swarm go berserk. Rex and Natalie, her parents, go to fight the swarm, letting the rest go through.
In the building, the team finds the Silver Brain. Astra uses her energy powers to attack him, but the villain summons the Anti-Bodies, the energy beings that serve him. They grab Astra and throw her into the Silver Brain's reactor. The team reacts with horror and rage, but Astra survives. She reaches through the energy of the reactor, interfaces with the core... and convinces it to shut off. The Silver Brain's surprise turns to horror, as without the power for his machines to anchor himself, he is sucked back into the Mento-Verse. Astra emerges from the deactivated reactor, and the First Family cheers for her.
Back at home, the team are storing the Silver Brain's tech, but Astra pulls her mother aside to ask her about hopscotch. Natalie admits that she has never played it, since she was raised in isolation by Augustus & Julius. Astra says she will ask them, but Natalie insists they cannot be disturbed now, as they have a duty related to their adventures.
Stymied, Astra goes to her room, and stares at a magnified view of a hopscotch court in a nearby schoolyard. She wants answers and cannot get them here as her family are busy with an adventure. Her resolve hardens as she leaves a note for her family asking them to feed her fish. She, too, is going on an adventure.
