Synopsis for "Beginnings"
Archaeologist Bill Gaines meets with voodoo priestess Juju in the ruins of Chichen Itza. He was supposed to deliver an artifact, but it was stolen. He shoots her to no effect, and she magically paralyzes him. After learning the man who stole the artifact is in England, Juju leaves Gaines to be killed by snakes. In Maltese, White is hiding out in Black’s penthouse after Jake Chang’s death. Black has gone to England, and Grey tells her how Black’s father died years ago taking a sniper’s bullet while protecting the Queen during a parade. Black remains wracked with guilt as he was in the same protective detail and believes it should have been him. In London, Black arrives at his hotel only to be ambushed by masked operatives. He swiftly fights them off and discovers the ambush was a test by his former MI-10 colleague Michael Mitchell. Mitchell wants him to do a job, but he refuses. Back in Maltese, Grey has White spar with a training robot, but she gets angry and destroys it. Black calls and tells them about the ambush. White wants to come help, but he tells her to butt out. Later, Black is visiting his father’s grave when the dead claw out of their graves and attack him. White arrives with Grey and saves him, but more zombies surface and surround them.
Notes
- Black & White vol. 2 was intended to be an ongoing series, but it was cancelled after this issue. A second issue was advertised but never published. Art Thibert revived the franchise in 2020 with "remastered" collections of the Black & White mini-series crowdfunded via the website Indiegogo.
- This story takes place after the Black & White mini-series but before the back-up serial that ran in Extreme Studios titles in early 1994.
