Synopsis for 1st story
In Los Angeles, International Operations agent Svetlana Grozny a.k.a. Shire infiltrates the headquarters of weapons developer Spectrum and kills its executive leadership. Secretly run by Communist hardliner Gennady Markov, the company sells weaponry to criminals, terrorists, and other bad actors. Shire meets up with her team leader, Jason Takomi, disguised as a janitor, and they fight their way through Markov’s armored security force. Soon, their teammates Nataly Redbird and pilot Stephen Connor a.k.a. GQ arrive to extract them, but Takomi is fatally shot in the escape. Markov reports the incident to his ally, IO chief Miles Craven, who promises an investigation. Upon returning to the team’s safehouse, Shire assumes command and has their computer expert, Herbert Weisenthal a.k.a. Geek, search databases for information on Markov. The team discusses how John Lynch originally sent them on this mission, but he has not contacted them in months. Geek detects a perimeter breach as masked commandos storm the building. On Shire’s orders, Geek begins wiping their computer system but receives a last-minute data transmission from someone at IO. He downloads the information, and the team flees in their jet, the Black Talon. At IO headquarters, new intelligence chief Alejandro Rios catches a young woman leaving a secure communications suite just before Craven calls him, demanding a full briefing on the incident at Spectrum. Aboard the Black Talon, Geek decrypts the data he received and discovers it includes the location of former IO operative Donovan Crane; Shire orders GQ to fly them there. In Talinn, Estonia, Markov oversees the unloading of a special container from a ship and learns his people have recovered Takomi’s body.
Notes
- This issue is reprinted in the Black Ops trade paperback published in 1996.
Trivia
- The reason the Black Ops team has had no contact with John Lynch is because he left IO and went rogue as seen in Gen¹³ vol. 1.
