Synopsis for 1st story
In January 1910, Emil Zadrok and his wife Victoria arrive by ship in Antarctica where he leads an expedition to reach the South Pole. Weeks pass, his men return to the ship, and the ship leaves, its captain refusing to wait for Zadrok to return. Determined to stand by her husband, Victoria stays behind. Zadrok nearly freezes to death but is saved when two small tendrils emerge from the ice and transform him into a superhuman. He returns to the coast and finds his wife’s camp just in time for her to die in his arms. In the present, Cyberdata executive James Layter arrives at the company’s floating operations base above Antarctica. He meets with Kimata, now a cyborg, who boasts of his plans and wants verification that Zadrok is dead. At the Subplex, Killjoy wakes up, escapes from sickbay, and steals weapons from the armory. Heatwave tries to calm her, but she claims it is too late. She says Cyberdata has released Kraken and that Cyberforce is its next target. Outside, Kraken approaches.
