Synopsis for 1st story
Years ago, the secret UN group MJ-12 recruited Miles Craven and Henry Bendix to fight aliens on Earth. In the present, Thomas Morgan tries to speak with Frank Colby about Project Genesis, but Colby refers him to Dominique Faust and her Black Arts Bureau. Morgan finds no record of Faust in the IO database, but an operative finds him and takes him to her secret location. Faust tells him the history of John Lynch: a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Lynch joined the Marine Corps, specifically Marine Force Recon special operations. He eventually left the Marines to work for the MacArthur Foundation before being recruited for IO by Craven. Lynch evaluated candidates for Team 7 including Christine Blaze. Craven rejected her, but she blamed Lynch. Over the years, his relationship with his family and teammates deteriorated. His wife left him and later died, and his infant son disappeared. Promising to help find his son, Craven appointed Lynch head of IO Operations. This began a rivalry between Lynch and Ivana Baiul, head of IO Sci-Tech and Craven’s mistress. Lynch hired Christine Blaze as a special operative, and the two became lovers. Meanwhile, when Backlash wanted to quit IO, Craven made a deal with Bendix to place him with Stormwatch. Slayton became a double agent, spying on both men for each other. Faust refuses to tell more so Morgan notifies Senator Killory he is going to New York to investigate Deathblow.
