History
Hell is an area in Christian lore where those who have not gotten in Purgatory or Heaven.
Spawn Universe[]
Hell and its demons are featured in the Spawn series. Mercenary Al Simmons gets betrayed by his own employers, dies, and goes to Hell. He then makes a deal with the demon Malebolgia (lord of the 8th Sphere of Hell) that if he agrees to fight with his army Simmons would get to return to Earth and see his wife again. [1] Throughout the comic he meets and fights many nefarious characters.
Early Years
Malebolgia used Necroplasm to create Hellspawn dark warriors that could fight against the forces of Heaven. The earliest were the Plague Spawn and Cain.
Modern Times
Spawn are sent from Hell to earth to prepare the world for Hell.[2] and Demons are supposed train them[3]
Eventually Al and Angela kill Malebolgia and it sets Hell into a disarray[4] . Cogliostro/ Cain attempts to control it using the Crown of Hell[5] and was building a tower in Hell. [6]
Armageddon
Satan, Hell's true ruler reincarnated as a human and left Hell. Later Spawn shut off Hell's access to earth [7] and traps Satan and God in an alternate universe.
Endgame
Simmons kills himself[8] it shuts off portals from Hell to earth and also created a powerful splintered spawn called an Omega Spawn that took over Hell. [9]
Simmons Resurrection & Satan Saga Wars
Satan in killed. Portals are shut off once again. [10]
