Jack Xaver, also known by his superhero alias Crossjack, is the protagonist of the Image Comics series Local Man.
History
Jack grew up in the sleepy town of Farmington, Wisconsin, where he realized he possessed the power of superhuman aim at an early age. During a hunting trip, Jack was scolded by his father for being unable to use a bow and arrow--Jack was hurt deeply by this, and even in adulthood is unable to aim a bow. In his teen years, Jack took on the superhero identity of Crossjack and began fighting small-time criminals in Farmington. It was around this time he started using his signature weapon, a circular throwing shield. This got him noticed by the super-team Third Gen, who Jack left his then-girlfriend Inga to join. Jack quickly ended up in a love affair with teammate Neon, who was the girlfriend of team leader Camo Commander. Neon fell pregnant with Jack's child and terminated the pregnancy, infuriating Camo Commander and leading to Jack being dismissed from Third Gen.
The specifics of Jack's Third Gen contract meant that Third Gen owned the copyright to the Crossjack name and costume. Jack was also legally barred from any vigilante work. Jack found out that a villain from his Farmington rogues gallery, Hodag, was murdered while in prison. Investigating this led Jack to a conspiracy in Farmington that had ties to his old life as a superhero.
