Synopsis for "Dinner at Eight"
The zyxometer in Samaritan's office alerted him to several situations although he chose to visit and give flowers to a woman who revealed herself to actually be Winged Victory. Earlier, M.P.H. and Beautie convinced him to take an evening off.
M.P.H. stopped the theft of an experimental vehicle while Samaritan and Winged Victory drew attention on their night off together while finding a restaurant to have dinner. Later, the two heroes decided to go somewhere else while Quarrel, Crackerjack, and the N-Forcer handled an avalanche in Montana. However, they ended up at Beefy Bob's on Stallman Street where Samaritan introduced himself as Asa Martin, a fact checker for Current Magazine before telling Winged Victory how he actually came from the 35th Century and was sent to stop a sealing ring malfunction during the launch of the space shuttle Challenger.
During their date, Winged Victory detected Beautie defeating Goldenboy in San Francisco through the zyxometer terminal implanted in her earlobe. Then, Winged Victory explained that she would always protect women before men in order to send women a message that they didn't need men to protect them. As other heroes went on missions, their date ended when Samaritan said something that angered Winged Victory and caused her to change into her heroic guise.
Samaritan changed into his heroic guise, as well, and followed her to Astrobank Tower. He realized that there were no gunshots, screams, explosions, avalanches, screeching tires, death rays, or alien attackers, and just a moment of peace and quiet before the two shared a kiss. However, they parted ways when Samaritan heard a silent alarm go off in Palo Alto and Winged Victory decided to handle a situation near Sekowsky Street.
