History
Origin[]
Leanna Creel underwent an undersea accident that would have killed her[1] if not for the mysterious Sea Witch.[2] The mystical entity granted her the power to control and summon water, and afterwards she joined the superhero team Youngblood.[1] Originally she did it to make some quick money, but she soon became an integral part of the team.[3]
1988[]
In Summer 1988, Leanna used the codename Riptide alongside Raines, Diehard, Battlestone, Boggs, Gamble and Chapel. They were deployed to Kuwait to prevent Hassan Kussein's Iraqui Army from invading. Although they defeated the first strike, Boggs and Raines were killed by a booby trap when checking out an underground supply bunker. When Gamble confronted Battlestone's authority over this tragedy, Stone murdered him, and Diehard relieved Stone from command, ending the mission.[4]
1992[]
In 1992, Leanna was part of Youngblood's International Task Force alongside Combat, Cougar, Psi-Fire, Brahma and Sentinel. On March, 1992, one of their missions involved the execution of terrorist Hassan Kussein, who was leading a group called the Holy Unification. During the mission, she was sexually harassed by Psi-Fire, which put even more strain in the effort of creating waves in the middle of the desert. When they approached Kussein's base, she was knocked out by an energy field that disrupted synapses. Psi-Fire ended up completing the mission without her.[5]
A week later, Riptide and the International Task Force were tasked with with visiting a G.A.T.E. International laboratory in Germany to transport a sleeping super-soldier named Jonathan Taylor Prophet to America. Accidentally, Youngblood awakened Prophet, right when Prophet's enemies, the Disciples of Doom, assaulted the laboratory, alongside another band of heroes named the Berzerkers.[6] The Disciples proved to be too many, and knocked Riptide out.[7] When she recovered, she discovered the Youngblood Home Team had arrived to provide support, but the Disciples had been joined by their master, Darkthornn, who was too powerful. Psi-Fire, who had been equipped with a psychic dampener due to his unlawful murder in the last mission, pleaded with Riptide to freed him, arguing he was the only one capable of defeating Darkthornn. Although Riptide feared Psi-Fire would take all of Youngblood along with the villain, she knew he had a point, and Youngblood Home Team member Vogue agreed. They freed Psi-Fire, who overpowered the evil Lord and forced him to retreat back to his home planet D'khay[8]
1993[]
In 1993, Brahma, Cougar, Photon, Riptide and Sentinel were sent to Antarctica to investigate a CIA monitoring station that had mysteriously gone offline. They found it ruined, with the staff missing, when they were attacked by a group of large barbarians. Youngblood followed the men through a tunnel that led them to Arcadia, an alternate Earth. Youngblood let themselves be captured to find the missing CIA agents, and they were led before Arcadia's ruler, Tyrax, who intended to execute them. Youngblood were rescued by the appearance of a group of rebels, led by Kanan, who helped them get the missing CIA agents and escape back to Earth right before the mystical portal closed.[9]
Later events[]
When Riptide agreed to pose nude in Pussicat Magazine, she was fired from Youngblood, but after Crypt had destroyed part of Youngblood and Battlestone became leader, she was asked to join again.[citation needed]Attributes
