Synopsis for "Fanning the Flames"
The New Men have set fire to Proctor’s lodge and watch it burn. Dash sees two men beating another on a nearby road, and the team intervenes. They stop the attackers and offer to help the victim, but he angrily tells them off and drives away. Reign senses strange psychic emanations, unaware the cause is an alien called Sith. Hiding in a bunker beneath Washington, D.C., Sith feeds on negative emotions and is using his captive telepath Psi-Fire to stoke hatred around the world. In Seattle, Dusk, Narcisse, Pilot, and Sundance watch riots in the streets. Pilot and Dusk spew racial epithets at each other and get into a fistfight. Meanwhile, agents of G.A.T.E. International arrive at the ruins of Proctor’s lodge and deduce that the New Men have gone to Seattle. In the city, the team emerges from one of Exit’s portals in the middle of a riot. They meet up with Dusk and the others only for Pilot to attack Reign. Bootleg and Kodiak are found by the two racists from the road, but G.A.T.E. agents knock the men out before they can attack. The agents then knock out Bootleg and Kodiak. Detective Fowles and Seattle PD take Pilot into custody just as Reign feels the emanations stop, and everyone returns to normal. Sundance meets up with Dusk and Narcisse, but they cannot find the others. Dash, Exit, and Reign have been captured by G.A.T.E. as well.
Notes
- This issue is part of the "Hate!" event featured across the Extreme Universe line of titles in early 1996. In Maximage #3, Maximage identifies the alien Sith as the source of the psychic hate plague and stops him.
