History
Origin[]
Nikola Voganova was forced to leave a pampered life in Russia at the age of 13 when she witnessed her father being killed by Alexander Stroika of the KGB. At that time, she was already a world-class gymnast.[2] At age 18 she was accepted into the Bloodpool program and shortly before her twentieth birthday she became a member of the superhero team Youngblood.[citation needed] Some time after having established herself in Youngblood, Vogue started an international cosmetics corporation, Vogue Cosmetics, using her fame to spearhead the launch.[2]
In 1989, Vogue worked under the leadership of Shaft alongside teammates Chapel, Diehard, Shaft, Bedrock, Link and Combat.[3]
1992[]
On March 1992, when supervillains Strongarm and Gage tried to break out the other half of their supervillain team, The Four, composed of Deadlock and Starbright, Vogue was paged to go to Youngblood's headquarters. However, she patrolled Washington for five hours instead, to make the rest wait so they'd learn she wasn't at their beck and call. Eventually, she joined her teammates and they attacked The Four,[2] who were imprisoned in The Pentagon.[4]
A week later,[5] Vogue received an alert informing her there was a breakout going on at The Pentagon, but she was too busy to attend to the matter. After that crisis was over, Youngblood were immediately tasked with flying to Germany to assist the Away Team, a mission Vogue did agree to take part in.[4] For this mission, Vogue and the Home Team were joined by Photon.[6]
After flying for ten hours, Vogue and the Home Team found the Away Team knocked out in a G.A.T.E. International laboratory where the they had been called to supervise the transport of a super-soldier named Jonathan Taylor Prophet. Prophet was the only remaining combatant against an army of robotic soldiers called Disciples of Doom, who were arriving through a portal from the planet D'khay. Vogue found Sentinel, leader of the Youngblood Away Team, under a pile of rubble. After rescuing him, Sentinel informed Shaft they needed to close the portal, so Shaft sent Bedrock and Diehard to do that. However, when Bedrock returned, he was accompanied by the tyrant ruler of D'Khay, Darkthornn, who had brainwashed Bedrock to do his bidding.[6] The Berzerkers, a group of freedom fighters from D'Khay, were also present, and Wildmane and Grey, two of its members, worked together with Youngblood Away Team member Brahma to knock Bedrock unconscious. Afterwards, Darkthornn took down Prophet and opened his portals to let through an army of winged demon soldiers. Vogue could barely keep her head above water during the struggle, and Darkthornn proceeded to take down Photon, the Berzerkers and Youngblood Away Team members Cougar, Brahma and Sentinel. Vogue heard Away Team member Psi-Fire calling out for her and Away Team member Riptide. Psi-Fire explained he was the only one with enough power to take down Darkthornn, but they had to remove his psychic dampener first. Riptide was hesitant, because she knew her teammate was an unhinged serial killer, but with no other choices, the two women freed Psi-Fire, who used his psychic powers to force Darkthornn to retreat back to his home planet.[7]
On August 9, Vogue and her teammates guarded vice-president Dan Quayle at Strategic Defense Initiative Astronomics along with two mercenaries named Pike and Hestia. There, the VP was assaulted by a rogue Covert Action Team.[8] When the terrorist called Maul kept growing in size to the point of almost bringing the building down on everybody, one of his teammates, Voodoo, put him to sleep psychically. Seeing she had saved them, Combat was willing to entertain the possibility that there was more going on there than met the eye. When the Vice-President tried to execute Voodoo, Shaft told him to let them handle the terrorists, but the Vice President, outraged at being touched and questioned, shot at Shaft and grazed his skull. With Youngblood turning against him, Voodoo extracted an alien named B'lial from inside the Vice President, exposing the being who had been controlling his actions.[9] Shortly after, Youngblood received an energy blast from the alien in charge, named Lord Helspont. As the Wild C.A.T. left to take care of him, Youngblood directed its attention to his cronies, Pike and Hestia. Afterwards, the facility started self destructing, and Youngblood was forced to run with the Vice-President, praying the C.A.T. could make it out on their own. After the explosion, there was no sign of any of the involved parties. Shaft commented the C.A.T. seemed like a resourceful bunch, and that he wouldn't be surprised if their paths crossed again.[10]
