History
Rebecca Rainmaker grew up on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Arizona. To the chagrin of her family, she left and eventually married ex-Marine and International Operations (IO) agent Stephen Callahan.[1]
Not long after Callahan left the covert IO strike group Team 7, Rebecca became pregnant.[2] On a mission to Africa, Team 7 had been exposed to Gen-Factor, a substance that granted them superhuman abilities. IO believed the members of Team 7 would pass on these abilities genetically to their children. When Rebecca gave birth, IO lied to Callahan and told him she and the child, a baby girl, had died. In fact, IO intended to keep her and the baby captive for study and experimentation. Fortunately, Rebecca knocked out a doctor and was able to escape with her daughter.[3] Believing his wife and child dead, Callahan remarried.[1]
Rebecca fled back to the San Carlos Reservation and sought refuge with her family.[1] She named her daughter Sarah and raised the girl on the reservation. Rebecca eventually developed cancer, periodically leaving Sarah in her brothers' care when she would go for medical treatment.[4]
When Sarah reached adulthood, she indeed proved to be Gen-Active and developed superhuman abilities. IO somehow became aware of her maturation, located her on the reservation, and took her into custody.[5] This began a chain of events that led Sarah to become a founding member of the superhero team Gen¹³.[6]
