In 1992, Riot was part of the super-team called Heavy Mettle alongside Decibel, Skyraker and Menagerie, working under orders of Jason Temple to protect the G.A.T.E. International building. Riot was on the verge of quitting the team to return to the neighborhoods to concentrate on a more urban and direct approach to fighting crime, leading Temple to search for a leader for the team.[1]
Shortly after, Heavy Mettle were tasked with stopping the hero called Supreme from murdering inmate Zachariah Grizlock, who was an essential asset for G.A.T.E. International. Riot went along, despite considering Grizlock scum that deserved to die. He punched Supreme at super-speed, but it felt like punching stone. Supreme threw Riot well into the air, so he began spinning quickly enough to create a hurricane and stay airborne until Skyraker could pick him up and land him safely. After that, Decibel changed tactics, explaining to Supreme that Grizlock had helped the entire nation and that their boss Temple could explain everything. Supreme agreed to visit G.A.T.E. International Headquarters for five minutes, which was more than enough for Temple to convince Supreme to join Heavy Mettle as field team leader.[2]
