Doctor Sandler was an employee of G.A.T.E. International who knew how to bring people back to life through Project: Born Again. At some point in the past, he came to owe John Stone a favor. In 1993, John arrived to Sandler's G.A.T.E. Compound in Los Angeles to cash in that favor, asking him to bring his teammate Stasis back to life. Sandler agreed, although he added it would cost Stone more than any favor he could ever owe him. He then proceeded to put Stasis's body in a nutrient bath.[1]
