Synopsis for "Ten"

Savage Dragon and Marshal Law were attacked by the Commandment Killer, who they believed to be Overlord. They returned to the hospital to search for Ann Stevens, but found her corpse with a note attached to her shoulder. Sorry - The Nearly Man approached them and told them that Commissioner McGland had news for them; another hero, Rubber Johnny, had been killed. Commissioner McGland mentioned Johnny's condominium, which sold superhero products, leading Marshal Law and Savage Dragon to believe that the killer could have bought Overlord's suit. The Commandment Killer attempted to kill Public Spirit Junior next after the latter had won a libel case. Savage Dragon and Marshal Law found Public Spirit Junior's corpse impaled by the sword of a statue. Marshal Law questioned Sorry and the hospital patients if they had seen how Ann had been killed. After realizing that none of the patients could help, Marshal Law declared that he would no longer be obsessed with "hate, pain, and violence" and that he no longer hated superheroes. Savage Dragon found a receipt for Overlord's old suit with the name "Thomas Roye"; Sorry - The Nearly Man. Suicida was beaten up and humiliated by his former wife, causing Gangreen to abandon him. Then, the Commandment Killer apparoached him and revealed himself to be Sorry - The Nearly Man, before pushing him off a ledge. Suicida was saved by Marshal Law's ship. The two heroes went to the abandoned Victory Museum, where they found Sorry and learned of his motives. Then, Sorry attempted to kill himself by attempting to crush himself to death, burn himself to death, and blow himself up; all of which were unsuccessful. Ultimately, Marshal Law arrested Sorry.

Notes

  • This issue also includes a Cut the Cape! editorial by Pat Mills, and a Hall of Maim character profile by Pat Mills & Kevin O’Neill.
  • This story takes place in the late 21st Century. It has been speculated that Dragon’s unexplained appearance and disappearance in this mini-series might coincide with the “time-bomb” that was attached to him in several issues of Big Bang. The bomb sent Dragon through time randomly and without warning. However, the bomb is clearly not visible on any of the pages in this book and is never mentioned.

Trivia

  • The Punished is a parody of Marvel's The Punisher.
  • Hellborn is possibly a parody of Hellboy.
  • Watchlord is a parody of Marvel's The Watcher.
  • Victory Girl appears to be a parody of DC's Wonder Woman, based on the former's costume and the concept of Olympian fire.
