Al Simmons’ begins his ambush! Violator stands triumphant with Spawn’s flayed costume—until Al, wrapped in barbed-wire and dripping green necroplasm, rises to reveal that the suit was a booby-trapped decoy and that he now wields raw necro-energy without it, commanding legions of the freshly slain as the self-proclaimed “King of the Dead.” The bomb’s shock-wave vaporizes swaths of angelic Rapture troopers and Hell’s shock units, resets Spawn’s decades-old power counter to double-zero, and rips open fissures that rouse other Hellspawns—She-Spawn, Gunslinger, Ninja, Medieval, and more—each sensing the cosmic power vacuum Al has created. While Violator and the enigmatic Godsend slink off to regroup, Spawn steps into the public eye, toppling corrupt human conspirators on televised talk-shows by day and methodically hunting the surviving agents of Heaven and Hell by night, vowing that the ancient celestial stalemate has ended and that the next phase of the war will be fought on his unforgiving terms.
