Synopsis for "Souls in the Balance"
A deranged reverend plays with a grenade in front of two hostage police officers and a small boy. He lets the grenade off under the police vehicles and escapes with the boy. Spawn spots the reverend as he runs away. He continues his rampage with killing officers by stuffing grenades in their pants.
Spawn plays with his wedding ring and suddenly experiences a flashback of Wanda Blake. He dreams of reaching out to her but they run away.
Spawn returns to reality as he hears gunshots. He sees a police officer threatening Gareb to tell him where the reverend is located. Spawn uses his costume to disable the officer and tells him to never harm people again as he pins him to the wall with iron. As Spawn walks away, the Reverend walks up and finds the officer.
Senator Scott McMillan gives a speech on his run for presidency. He receives a call from Jason Wynn who tells him his recent bill is written wrong and inhibits his goals. He tells him to let the whole bill fail. Wynn continues pressing to retrieve his stolen weapons. He suddenly gets a call from McMillan that someone is hacking his files. He thinks someone is onto them. Wynn starts to suspect Wanda and Max.
Sam Burke and Twitch Williams investigate the grenade murders. Twitch points out there might be a connection with Washington DC. The dying officer mutters the words "red cloak" to Sam and Twitch. They decide to start their search for the missing weapons.[1]
Wynn calls Tony Twist and orders him to find the man in the alley, and orders Chapel to kill Spawn once Twist finds him.
Spawn wakes up to find the police officer he bolted to the wall missing. Cogliostro scolds him and asks him why he didn't help the little boy from the crazy reverend earlier. Spawn tells him it's not his problem.
Billy Kincaid drives his ice cream truck around and is stopped by the Clown who invites him to a party that evening.
In Queens, New York, Wanda receives a call that Max Kivala has been murdered. She takes her eye off Cyan Fitzgerald when she's abducted by two men in a nearby vehicle.
In an alley, Spawn overhears police reports that Cyan has been kidnapped. He leaves to investigate. A moment later, Sam and Twitch arrive in the alley and shut it down as they have cornered the Reverend. An unseen sniper shoots the Reverend in the head. Suddenly the Reverend wakes up and tells him it was a nice shot. As he reached to pull the pin on several grenades. Spawn swoops in and pulls the kid from the explosion at the last second.
Elsewhere, the Reverend laughs and transforms back into the Clown.
Elsewhere, Cyan is crying in a corner as Billy Kincaid walks in.
