History

Vic Lazarr was a supervillain in the Seventies, as the Albatross. When the WildC.A.T.s first meet Lazarr, he is working as the bodyguard of drug dealer Donald Levine during a heroin transaction with Lucius Simpson. When Maxine Manchester, who the WildC.A.T.s intend to recruit, enters the scene, she takes Simpson as a hostage, but Tao takes Lazarr's gun from his hand and uses it to shoot the heroin, which produces a cloud that knocks Maxine and Simpson out, though Levine and Lazarr escape.[1]

After Deathtrap organizes other supervillains against the WildC.A.T.s, Lazarr leaves a suitcase with a bomb in the restrooms of superhero bar Clark's. A suspicious Max Cash goes to check the suitcase and is badly hurt in the ensuing explosion, which the WildC.A.T.s see as a declaration of war.[2]

When Deathtrap takes several hostages at Grand Central, Vic Lazarr is one of them and tries to get free by telling about his old supervillain identity and that he needs to leave New York, but neither Deathtrap nor any of the MERCs know about him. When Ladytron arrives and finds Lazarr among the hostages, she realizes that he wasn't working for Deathtrap.[3]

Lazarr gets free and Ladytron pursues him to the rooftop, where Grifter reaches her to persuade her to not kill Lazarr as they need to interrogate him, but it turns out that Maxine is doing just that. Lazarr confesses that when Tao took his weapon, also put a tracer on his person, found him three weeks later and used his power to "convince" Lazarr to put the bomb at Clark's. Tao wanted to aggravate the war on crime and turn the WildC.A.T.s into his personal army.[4]
