Synopsis for 1st story
In Siberia, a team of superhumans called Redblood led by rogue general Alexander Stroika storm a secret Russian base and steal the nuclear weapons stored there. In New York, Vogue is ambushed by a KGB agent when she enters her office, but she swiftly subdues him. When she questions him, he says he knows who killed her father. He goes on to review her past: an Olympic-class gymnast as a young girl, her mother had her flee the Soviet Union after her scientist father was murdered. The agent then reveals it was Stroika who killed her father and tells her about the recent theft in Siberia. On behalf of the Russian government, he asks her to covertly stop Stroika; she agrees for the sake of her father. Vogue goes to D.C., dons body armor, and convinces Shaft to let her borrow a Youngblood aircraft for 24 hours. Upon arriving in Moscow, she is immediately accosted by Russian troops. After fending them off, she visits her mother and learns her brother Dmitri has been missing for weeks. Next, Vogue infiltrates a secret archive beneath the Kremlin and discovers Stroika’s lab is beneath the reactor complex at Chernobyl. She goes there, sneaks inside, and defeats two security droids only to be taken captive by Stroika and Redblood.
Trivia
- In the Russian language, surnames are slightly different depending on a person's gender. Throughout this story, Vogue's father and brother are mistakenly given the feminine form of their surname, "Voganova", when the correct masculine form is "Voganov".
