Synopsis for 1st story
Believing the WildC.A.T.s dead and having inherited Halo from Emp, Savant and Mr. Majestic are forming a new team. After failing to recruit Soldier, Savage Dragon, Grunge, Fuji, and Backlash, Savant decides to pursue more morally ambiguous candidates. She begins with Grifter’s younger brother Max, working undercover in the mafia for IO. Giving him the codename Condition Red, she compels him to join by threatening to expose crimes he has committed. Next, she and Majestic recruit the synthetic genius Tactical Augmented Organism a.k.a. TAO from a Halo subsidiary, Optigen. Despite Majestic’s objections, Savant’s next candidate is armed robber and killer Maxine Manchester a.k.a. Ladytron. Transformed into a powerful cyborg by prison experiments, she recently escaped and has been attacking other criminals. The team decides to intercept her at her next probable target, a high-level heroin deal set to take place in Chicago. They go undercover at the restaurant where the meet is being held, and, within minutes, Ladytron drives a car into the building and attacks. While Majestic fights the drug dealers’ undead Zombot bodyguards, Ladytron fends off Savant and Condition Red. TAO subdues her by shooting a bag of heroin which she then inhales, causing her to pass out. Meanwhile, in deep space, the original WildC.A.T.s are still alive aboard the Kherubim ship.
